§ Mr. Pymasked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will make a statement on the present profitability of the United Kingdom fishing industry, with special reference to the oil problems which British fleets are now experiencing; and what action he proposes to take.
§ Mr. PeartThe right hon. Member will be aware that my right hon. Friend the Chancellor of the Exchequer has said that increased fuel costs generally must be allowed to work through the system. However, as I informed the House as recently as 16th January the Government are actively considering the question of aid for the fishing industry. I shall make a statement as soon as possible.
