Mr. Jim Marshall

asked the Secretary of State for Industry (1) how many typewriter manufacturers are at present producing machines in the United Kingdom;

(2) how many typewriter manufacturers producing machines in the United Kingdom are wholly British-owned, partially British-owned, and wholly foreign-owned, respectively.

Mr. Meacher

Including the Imperial Typewriter Co. Ltd. there are three manufacturers of typewriters in this country. All are wholly-owned subsidiaries of groups controlled from overseas.

asked the Secretary of State for Industry how many typewriters were sold in the United Kingdom for each of the years 1966 to 1974; and how many of these were home-produced.
