HL Deb 22 January 1975 vol 356 cc211-2WA
Lord FERRIER

asked Her Majesty's Government:

With reference to the Minister of Health's recent vote of £30,000 for re-search into sciatica, whether consultations will involve chiropractors, whose success in the treatment of this complaint is well-known.

Lord WELLS-PESTELL

The noble Lord probably has in mind the study in the treatment of low back pain supported by the Department of Health and Social Security at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital at an estimated cost of about £25,000. The Department sup-ported a pilot stage of this study from January 1971 and agreed to the main study, which will last about three years, in March 1974. The study has, therefore, already begun and the research workers will have completed all necessary consultations. These consultations did not involve chiropractors.

House adjourned at twenty minutes past eight o'clock.
