§ Mr. Biggs-Davisonasked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland whether, having regard to the tourist trade and to Written Answers by his predecessor to the hon. Member for Chigwell on 3rd April 1973 and by himself to the hon. Member for Epping Forest on 19th December 1974, he is satisfied that the abbreviated road signs "N'ards" and "D'dee" will be understood by visitors; and whether he will have them replaced.
§ Mr. ConcannonI accept that the abbreviations for Donaghadee may not be fully understood by visitors and I have made arrangements to have such abbreviations replaced as soon as possible While abbreviations for Newtownwards are not so confusing, I have nevertheless arranged for these to be replaced as opportunity permits.
§ Mr. Biggs-Davisonasked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland whether he will have an inspection made of road signs, particularly on main routes through built-up areas, and necessary improvements made, in time for the tourist season.
§ Mr. ConcannonI have arranged for an inspection of road signs to be carried out on main routes in the greater Belfast area, and any necessary improvements will be made as quickly as possible. In the rest of Northern Ireland I am satisfied that the signposting on main roads is reasonably adequate.
