HC Deb 21 January 1975 vol 884 c323W
Mr. Blaker

asked the Minister of Overseas Development what action the Government have taken to follow up the decisions reached at the World Food Conference in Rome.

Mrs. Hart

The World Food Council has now been formally established by the United Nations General Assembly and the United Kingdom has been elected a member for a period of three years. The meeting of the Commonwealth Ministers to discuss rural development will open on 4th March. A matter of prime concern at the World Food Conference was that developing countries should be encouraged to improve food production and distribution. The Government have already made clear that they will do everything they can to help in this respect, and that an increasing proportion of the growing aid programme will be devoted to development in the rural sectors in developing countries.
