§ Mr. John FraserLocal authority areas in England and Wales were reorganised in April 1974, and in June 1974 about 44,800 people were employed by local authorities in the new county of Cheshire. For earlier dates the figures relate to the old county. In this larger area, local authorities employed about 68,200 people in June 1973, 62,600 in June 1972 and 58,300 in June 1971. The figures do not include the police force and traffic wardens. I regret that information is not available for earlier dates.
