§ Mr. JohnI am satisfied that the Lightning aircraft and the Phantoms are equipped in such a way as will enable them to continue to make an effective contribution to the discharge of our air defence responsibilities in the United Kingdom and on the Continent. The continued need to up-date equipment is fully recognised, and forms an important part of the research and development programme.
