HC Deb 25 February 1975 vol 887 c114W
30. Mr. Robin F. Cook

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if she is satisfied with the operation of the Supplementary Benefit Appeal Tribunals.

Mrs. Castle

I am aware that criticisms have been made of these tribunals. A comprehensive study by Professor Bell of Newcastle University is nearing completion, and her report, along with other suggestions, will be fully considered by my right hon. and learned Friend the Lord Chancellor, the Council on Tribunals and myself. The working of the tribunals is, of course, kept under review by the council under Section 1 of the Tribunals and Inquiries Act 1971.
