Mr. Edwin Wainwrightasked the Secretary of State for Social Services if she will list the number of weeks during each of the past four years that the casualty department of the Mexborough Montagu Hospital has been closed; and if she will take the necessary steps to ensure that it is kept permanently open.
§ Dr. OwenIn the last four years it was closed on two occasions, both in 1972, for periods of one and a half and 17½ weeks. Rotherham Area Health Authority, which is responsible for this service, is currently reviewing the situation. I have asked to be informed of the result.
