HC Deb 25 February 1975 vol 887 cc124-5W
Mr. Anderson

asked the Secretary of State for Wales what is the target date for completion of the M4 motorway; what is the present position on each of the remaining stages; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. John Morris

Work on the M4 Pontardulais bypass should be completed in 1976. It is not possible to give precise dates for the other sections. It remains my aim to have this motorway completed at the earliest possible date.

The position reached on the remaining sections is as follows:

Statutory Procedures still to be completed

  • Tredegar Park—St. Mellons.
  • Castleton—Coryton.
  • Stormy Down—Groes (Contract 2: North Cornelly—Stormy Down).

Awaiting Invitation of Tenders

  • Coryton—Miskin.
  • Miskin—Pencoed.
  • Pencoed—Stormy Down.

Tenders received and under consideration

  • Stormy Down—Groes (Contract 1: North Cornelly—Groes).

The response to the public participation exercise on the Baglan—Lon Las section is now being analysed and I shall announce my choice of a preferred route in due course.

Mr. Geraint Howells

asked the Secretary of State for Wales if he has any plans to extend the M4 motorway to Mid-Wales during the next five years.

Mr. John Morris

No.
