HC Deb 25 February 1975 vol 887 c117W
39. Mr. Dalyell

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what action she is taking as a result of the delegation to the Minister of State on 11th February consisting of Professor Brent, Professor Calne, Dr. Donald Longmore, Mr. Peter Skegg, the Inner West London Council, Dr. Gavin Thurston, and the hon. Member for West Lothian, on ways of securing more kidneys for use by the 1,500 patients urgently awaiting transplant.

Dr. Owen

My hon. Friend asked me to consider the desirability of amending the wording of the Human Tissue Act 1961 on lines suggested by the British Transplantation Society, and to look into the implication of setting up a non-statutory contracting-out register to assist the making of inquiries necessary under the Act. I have agreed to consider these two matters. I am also taking steps to undertake a public attitude survey on various aspects of transplantation.
