HC Deb 25 February 1975 vol 887 c113W
27. Mr. Duffy

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if she is satisfied that there are sufficient facilities to deal with a major disaster in the Sheffield area of the Trent Regional Health Authority.

Dr. Owen

There are four designated accident and emergency centres in Sheffield and four more situated between five and 18 miles of the city. Some premises are less than satisfactory, but compared with the average level of national provision I am satisfied that the accident and emergency facilities available are sufficient for the population served. In consultation with the local authority and other interested bodies the Sheffield Area Health Authority is reviewing its major disaster plan and will be circulating revised proposals shortly.
