asked the Lord President of the Council if he will give the same details about the remuneration and other benefits for Members of Parliament in Canada, Australia and New Zealand as he gave for other countries in his answer to the hon. Member for Weston-super-Mare (Mr. Wiggin) on 26th November.

, pursuant to his reply [Official Report, 27th January 1975; Vol. 885, c. 5], circulated the following information:

PAY AND ALLOWANCES OF PARLIAMENTARIANS IN CANADA, AUSTRALIA AND NEW ZEALAND
Basic Annual Salary Special Allowances and Concessions Secretarial and Office Services Travel Concessions (on Parliamentary Business) Postage, Telephone Services (on Parliamentary Business)
Canada $18,000 (£7,520) Allowance of $8,000 (£3,340) for Provincial Members, and of $9,650 (£4,030) for Members of certain Territories. Basic allowance of $6,000 (£2,510) plus the cost of one secretarial assistant in the constituency and two secretarial assistants in Ottawa. Free inland travel. Limited free travel on unofficial business, and for Members' wives. Free postage and telephone service; free stationery etc.
Australia A $14,500 (£8,190) Constituency allowance of A $4,100 (£2,320) per annum. Subsistence allowance of A $22 (£12) a day for Canberra visits. Canberra residents receive A $15 (£8) a day. Members are provided with an office in their Home State, and many engage constituency secretary at public expense. Free inland travel. Limited free travel for wives and children. Subsidy of up to A $1,600 (£900) during each Parliament for overseas travel. Postage allowance of A $500 (£280) per annum; free telephone service.
New Zealand NZ$11,000 (£6,160) Constituency allowances ranging from NZ$2,460 (£1,370) to NZ$4,150 (£2,320). Subsistence allowance of NZ$4 (£2) (day) or NZ$10 (£6) (night) for attendance at parliamentary select committees or party committees. One secretary provided for two Members; research assistants provided for each party. Free inland travel. Concessions for wives and children. Free internal postage during session from Parliament House plus allowance of NZ$23 (£13) per month for other postal charges. Rent free telephone in Parliament House and residence; concessions on toll calls and telegrams.
