Mr. Crawford

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what was the cost of National Health Service spending for hospitals in Scotland in 1974, both in general and with particular reference to consumable goods.

Mr. William Ross

In the financial year 1973–74 expenditure on the National Health Service in Scotland amounted to £341.5 million. Of that sum £246.6 million was spent on the hospital service, £34.7 million of it on consumable goods.
