Mr. John Evans

asked the Minister for the Civil Service how many civil servants are currently employed in Scotland, Wales and each of the eight English regions which are served by regional economic planning councils; and what were the figures for each of the past five years.

, pursuant to his reply [Official Report, 3rd February 1975; Vol. 885, c. 398–9], gave the following information:

The estimated numbers of non-industrial civil servants employed in Scotland, Wales and each of the eight English economic planning regions at the beginning of each year from 1970 to 1974 are as follows:

Limited have been notified of defence review measures likely to affect them. Subsequently there has been correspondence and discussion with individual firms. Hawker Siddeley Aviation has proposed some modification of the measures likely to affect it. I have agreed to meet representatives of the Hawker Siddeley Aviation workforce shortly.
