HC Deb 19 February 1975 vol 886 c430W
Sir George Young

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what evidence she has of delays in receiving pension and child allowance books; what action she proposes to take to reduce such delays; and if she will make a statement.

Mr. Alec Jones

Retirement pension and family allowance books are generally sent to the relevant post office about two weeks before they are due to be handed to the beneficiary, and I have no evidence that these arrangements normally involve any delay. I am writing to the hon. Gentleman about the case with which he is concerned, where the temporary closure of a post office caused difficulties.
