asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he will take action to hold up the proposed increases in the BBC television licences until such time as the corporation reduces the fees paid to its contributors in general, and Members of Parliament and other politicians in particular.

No. It would not be appropriate for my right hon. Friend to intervene in the day-to-day running of the BBC which includes the use of its income to pay the various contributors to its programmes.
