Mr. Ron Lewis

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science on what date he informed the Cumbria County Council that the Government intended to implement the Houghton Report.

I announced the Government's welcome of the general principles of the report and their acceptance of its implications for expenditure in a reply made on 20th December 1974 to a Question by my hon. Friend the Member for Manchester, Gorton (Mr. Marks).—[Vol. 883, c.630–632.]—I did not specifically inform the Cumbria County Council.
