asked the Lord President of the Council what progress has been made in implementing the Government's policy that they would take all steps to ensure that Parliamentary Bills were drafted in plain simple English that everyone could understand.

Those responsible for drafting Bills are well aware of the need to express the intention in the simplest language possible. But the subject-matter of modern legislation is usually complex and often technical. The Renton Committee on the Preparation of Legislation is currently reviewing the form in which Public Bills are drafted and is expected to report shortly.
