§ Colonel Sir Harwood Harrisonasked the Secretary of State for the Environment what was the total number of fulltime employees—excluding school teachers—of local authorities in the county of Suffolk on 1st January 1975; and how this compares with each year since 1971.
§ Mr. John FraserI have been asked to reply.
Information about the numbers employed by local authorities is available from returns made by each authority in June each year. The returns show that, excluding lecturers and teachers in education departments, about 9,400 people were employed on a full-time basis by the new local authorities in Suffolk at June 1974. The corresponding figures for those employed by the old local authorities at June 1973, June 1972 and June 1971 are about 9,100, 9,200 and 8,800, respectively.
