HC Deb 13 February 1975 vol 886 cc188-9W
Mr. George

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment how much the survey to estimate the cost of necessary repairs to British Waterways Board canals is expected to cost; what proportion this sum is of the British Waterways Board's last Government allocation; and what proportion of this sum is likely to be forthcoming from the Government for use by the British Waterways Board.

Mr. Denis Howell

The estimated cost of the survey, which is being carried out by consultants appointed by my Department, is £130,000. The grant-in-aid to the British Waterways Board amounts to £5.7 million in 1974–75 and has in no way been reduced to finance the survey.
