HC Deb 13 February 1975 vol 886 cc215-6W
Mr. Gwynfor Evans

asked the Secretary of State for Wales how many buildings in Wales are registered with his Department as having load-bearing beams with a large high-alumina cement content; how many of these building are (a) schools, (b) office blocks, (c) welfare and old people's homes and (d) children's homes; and how many buildings in Wales have been tested to determine the high-alumina cement content of their load-bearing beams.

Mr. Rowlands

We have asked local authorities for full information about buildings which may contain load-bearing beams with a high-alumina content. The information so far received indicates that 38 schools, five colleges of further educa- tion,12 homes for the elderly and one children's home may contain such beams. Thirty-three of the educational establishments have been declared safe, and local authorities are testing other buildings; and all necessary precautions are being taken. Precise information on office blocks is not available.
