1970 4
1971 6
1972
1973
1974*
* Estimated: volume not yet published.

The corresponding figures for the annual volumes of statutory instruments are:

inches
1970 13½
1971 14
1972 13½
1973* 18
1974* 19
* Estimated: volumes not yet published.

Mr. Spearing

asked the Minister for the Civil Service if he will estimate the approximate shelf footage required to store the current EEC legislation, the space required for each year from 1969 to 1974 and the estimated future requirement for each year until 1980 on present trends.

Mr. Charles R. Morris

The English texts of the secondary legislation of the European Communities still in force as at 31st December 1972 were published by Her Majesty's Stationery Office in a 42-volume Subject Edition, volume 42 being a subject index and numerical list. These volumes take up approximately 17½ inches of shelf room.

The Official Journal of the European Communities, English Edition, containing European Communities secondary legislation for the year 1973 takes up approximately 28 inches; that for the year 1974, approximately 27½, inches.

It is not possible to estimate the shelf footage for future years.
