§ Mr. Beithasked the Secretary of State for Social Services whether she will introduce proposals to provide compensation for persons who contracted tuberculosis as a result of their employment in hospitals prior to the inclusion in 1951 of tuberculosis in the list of industrial diseases within the meaning of the Workmen's Compensation and Industrial Injuries Acts.
§ Mr. O'MalleyNo. The Industrial Injuries Act provides benefit for the effects of industrial accidents and prescribed industrial diseases resulting from employment on or after 5th July 1948 when the Act came into force. That provision applies equally to diseases which were prescribed subsequently and I have no proposals to make different provision for tuberculosis.
