Whether it is still intended that production of steel in Scotland should be 1066WA increased by 25 per cent. in the current 10 year plan formulated with the British Steel Corporation and announced two years ago.
§ Lord BESWICKThe British Steel Corporation intends to raise its steelmaking capacity in Scotland to 4½ million tonnes, as envisaged in the 10-year Development Strategy published in February 1973. In the current review of proposed closures we will be discussing with the Corporation and the TUC Steel Committee the implications of this expansion of capacity for individual BSC plants in Scotland.
