§ Mr. Dodsworthasked the Secretary of State for Employment what were the numbers of people working five days a week, four days a week, three days a week and less than three days a week, respectively, 422W in January 1974; and how these figures compare with the latest date for which figures are available.
Mr. John EraserI regret that information in this form is not available. However, returns obtained from firms in manufacturing industries relating to the week ending 19th January 1974 showed that about 1,130,000 operatives were on short-time during the week and a further 8,000 were stood off for the whole of the week. The corresponding figures for 16th November, the latest period for which figures are available, are 64,000 and 18,000 respectively.
