HL Deb 03 February 1975 vol 356 cc749-50WA
Lord BROCKWAY

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they will approach the Government of Turkey with a view to facilitating the export of food and medicines to 100,000 Kurds in Northern Iraq who are beleaguered and are reported to be starving and diseased.

The PARLIAMENTARY UNDER-SECRETARY of STATE, FOREIGN and COMMONWEALTH OFFICE (LORD GORONWY-ROBERTS)

As my right honourable friend the Minister of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs said in another place on 29th January, we all regret a situation in which there is human suffering, but it must be recognised that we have no status in this matter. Furthermore, it is very doubtful whether by making representations we could bring about the desired result.

House adjourned at twenty-seven minutes before eight o'clock.
