§ Mr. William RossThe techniques of genetic engineering are still in so early a stage of development that it is not possible to say that any research in the field is 441W directed to the eradication of any particular group of diseases. However, fundamental research is being carried out in Scotland by several groups in Edinburgh and Glasgow; and the subject is, of course, of current interest throughout the world.
