Mr. D. E. Thomas

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science (1) what was the total amount of public expenditure on colleges of education in Great Britain and in each of the English regions for the latest year for which figures are available; and if he will express the total expenditure per capita of each student attending such institutions;

(2) what was the total amount of public expenditure on colleges of education in Wales for the latest year for which figures are available; and if he will express the total expenditure per capita of each student attending such institutions.

For the financial year 1972–73, in respect of England and Wales the table below gives net recurrent public expenditure on colleges of education and net expenditure per student, maintained and voluntary colleges taken together. Regional figures for England could be produced only with disproportionate labour. Information in respect of Scottish colleges is the responsibility of my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Scotland.
