The Employment Protection Act provides that employees laid off by reason of any occurrence affecting the normal working of the employer's business in relation to their particular work—which would include the issue of a prohibition notice under the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act—will be entitled to a minimum guarantee payment from their employer for any day on which they would normally be required to work. Payment will be based on the employee's normal daily earnings subject to a maximum of £6 per day and will be made for up to five days in a quarter.
