891WHe sponsors the National Enterprise Board, the British Steel Corporation, the Post Office Corporation, Cable and Wireless Ltd., and the aircraft, shipbuilding and general manufacturing industries. He is also responsible for technical services to industry, for industrial research and development including civil aerospace research and the supervision of industrial research establishments. All these responsibilities are exercisable in Scotland except that on 1st July 1975 the Secretary of State for Scotland assumed responsibility for selective financial assistance under Section 7 of the Industry Act 1972 for the provision of industrial sites and factories, and for certain related steering and promotional activities.
