HC Deb 19 December 1975 vol 902 c819W
Miss Richardson

asked the Secretary of State for Defence whether any precautions are being taken or are contemplated to prevent former members of the British Armed Services from placing the benefits of their training at the disposal of foreign Governments for the purpose of attacking countries with which the United Kingdom is not at war, or in helping to maintain regimes whose existence Her Majesty's Government do not officially recognise.

Mr. William Rodgers

Officers who leave the Active List may not, so longas they continue to hold commissions or draw retired pay, enter the service of any Government outside the United Kingdom without the consent of the Defence Council. Servicemen also, in certain circumstances, have a liability for reserve service for a period of time following their date of discharge. In addition, it is an offence against the Official Secrets Acts for an ex-member of the Armed Forces to divulge official information acquired by him during his service unless expressly authorised to do so.
