HC Deb 18 December 1975 vol 902 cc787-8W
Mr. Geraint Howells

asked the Secretary of State for Wales how many officials are employed in local government in Wales: and what is the comparison figure for 1965.

Mr. John Morris

In June 1965 Welsh local authorities employed 79,355 fulltime and 23,610 part-time persons. On 14th June 1975 there were 98,875 full-time and 45,243 part-time employees. These figures do not include police.

The responsibilities of local authorities and the basis of collection have changed after this period and the figures are, therefore, not truly comparable.
