§ Mr. John SilkinMany statutory provisions fixing fees and charges, or ceilings on them, which local authorities may charge for trading and non-trading services, including the issue of licences, were relaxed or abolished by the Local Government Act 1972 and 1974. I am746W reviewing the remaining provisions of this type in consultation with those of my colleagues responsible for the various functions concerned. The object of the review is to seek the best method of ensuring that local authorities are able to cover their costs. I aim to consult the associations of local authorities early in the new year.
