Mr. Nicholas Wintertonasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he is satisfied with the present level and procedures of security checks on foreign embassy staff, who have diplomatic status in the United Kingdom, following their return from visits abroad; and whether he will now review diplomatic status to enable personal searches to be made more easily and speedily.
§ Mr. Roy JenkinsThe present arrangements are appropriate given the law and practice as regards diplomatic status. Any review of diplomatic status would be a matter for my right hon Friend the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs.
