asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what was the total amount paid out in supplementary allowances for each year since 1970.

The amounts were as followsYear 1969–70, £246 million; 1970–71, £275 million; 1971–72, £366 million; 1972–73, £416 million; 1973–74, £412 million; 1974–75, £532 million.
