HC Deb 15 December 1975 vol 902 cc461-2W
Mr. Watkinson

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer (1) what is the size of the debt presently owed by Her Majesty's Government to Iran;

(2) what were the principal loans made by the Iranian Government to the United Kingdom in the last five years.

Mr. Dell

No foreign currency loans have been made by Iran to Her Majesty's Government during the last five years. The only outstanding loan from the Iranian Government to the United Kingdom public sector is the first $400 million tranche of the $1.2 billion line of credit. Negotiations on the second $400 million tranche are complete, and the loan should be drawn by the National Water Council in the near future.

It is not the practice to give details of individual countries' holdings of British Government securities or Treasury Bills.
