asked the Secretary of State for Social Services whether any guidance has been issued by her Department to insurance offices about whether or not an individual dismissed for not joining a union specified in a union membership agreement should be disqualified from receiving unemployment benefit.

Mr. O'Malley

No. The question whether such a person should be disqualified for receiving unemployment benefit is for the decision by independent adjudicating authorities appointed under the Social Security Act 1975, and it
