Mr. Wigley

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what steps have been taken by the Government within the institutions of the EEC to press for the harmonisation of human rights throughout the countries of the EEC.

None. All the member States of the EEC are parties to the Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms (Cmnd 8969) drawn up by the Council of Europe and signed in Rome on 4th November 1950.
