HC Deb 11 December 1975 vol 902 cc299-300W
24. Mr. Wall

asked the Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what measures have been taken to ensure adequate supplies of cod to the consumer.

Mr. Bishop

The United Kingdom plays a full part in the International Fisheries Commissions which are seeking to ensure future supplies by means of international conservation measures. While hoping that it will still be possible to reach a satisfactory agreement with Iceland, the Government are in the meantime taking steps to protect the rights of British fishermen in international waters in that area.

55. Mr. James Johnson

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what steps he is taking to find alternative areas for the catching of cod by United Kingdom deep sea fishermen.

Mr. Bishop

I would refer my hon. Friend to the reply I gave earlier today to the hon. Member for North Fylde (Mr. Clegg).
