§ Mr. Kilroy-Silkasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if, following the end of detention without trial in Northern Ireland, he will now take steps to end the imprisonment of those juveniles and adults who have not yet been tried.
§ Mr. Alexander W. LyonThere is no analogy. We have no powers comparable to those formerly exercised in Northern Ireland to order detention without trial. Courts must retain power in appropriate cases to remand persons awaiting trial in custody, but we hope to introduce legislation shortly to amend the law relating to bail.
