§ Mr. Spearingasked the Secretary of State for the Environment what is the number of houses in Wythes Road and Saville Road, Silvertown, London E.16 which will be demolished or remain standing, respectively, in accordance with the recent determination by his inspector and the number of vacant sites resulting from such demolition; and if he is satisfied that the pattern of redevelopment thus determined is suitable in these roads adjacent to an area of comprehensive redevelopment.
§ Mr. Armstrong16 houses in Wythes Road will be acquired by the council for clearance. 29 houses will remain in private ownership and two others in the possession of the council. The exclusion of these 31 houses from the recently confirmed compulsory purchase order will enable their retention, but decisions as to their future rest with the owners. It is for the local authority to decide what pattern of redevelopment is appropriate in the circumstances.
§ Mr. Spearingasked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will estimate the likely cost of rehabilitating each of the dwellings at numbers 4, 6, 8, 18, 20, and 64 Wythes Road and numbers 19, 27, 29, and 33 Saville Road, Silvertown, London E.16, reclassified by his inspector as fit for rehabilitation; and what is his estimate of the cost of building new homes on each site that would provide at least the same accommodation and facilities.
§ Mr. ArmstrongSince these houses were found to be fit for human habitation, the question of the relative cost of rehabilitation or redevelopment did not arise in connection with the recent CPO, and the information on which to base such estimates is therefore not available.
