Since July 1972, IDCs have not been required in the development and special development areas. Following the designation of the Edinburgh and Cardiff areas as development areas in August 1974, the IDC control ceased to apply in those areas. 2. Figures for refusals are not readily available before 1st January 1969. 3. Economic planning region boundaries were changed in April 1974. Regional figures since 1974 are not therefore comparable with earlier years. 4.
