Mr. Pardoe

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will list in the Official Report the share of gross trading profits in total domestic income, net of stock appreciation, for the years 1950 to 1959, 1960 to 1969, 1970, 1971, 1972, 1973 and 1974, respectively; and if he can provide, from information available to him, comparable figures for France, Germany, and for the other eight EEC countries taken together.

The share of the gross trading profits of companies in total domestic income, net of stock appreciation, is given below for the periods requested. Information on profits is not available from international sources. Figures on the basis of the national accounting concept of net operating surplus are available for the years 1960 to 1973, however, and these are presented below as a percentage of net domestic product at factor cost and at market prices. The figures relate to all trading activities including farming, whether in the public or private sector and whether carried out by incorporated or unincorporated enterprises.
