HC Deb 09 December 1975 vol 902 c181W
Sir A. Meyer

asked the Secretary of State for Wales what is the total number of advance factories completed in Wales since February 1974; what is the total cost of construction of these factories, including the price of building land; how many people are currently employed in these factories; and what is the cost of each job so provided.

Mr. John Morris

Fifteen since February 1974.

The total estimated cost, including land, is £2,885,251. Two hundred and fifty-eight persons are employed in the seven factories currently occupied. When they are fully manned the cost per job is expected to be about £1,950.

Mr. Nicholas Edwards

asked the Secretary of State for Wales if he will publish a table showing for October of each year since 1964, the number of Government factories under construction, completed, vacant and allocated, and the total number of people employed in these factories.

Mr. John Morris

I presume that the hon. Gentleman is referring to factories in Wales.

It is not possible to provide information in the form required covering all Government factories without a disproportionate amount of public expenditure. Information is available for advance factories for October 1970 to October 1975, and some of the information for these factories for October 1965 to October 1969. This is given in the table below. The number of people employed in these factories is 6,100.

1965 1
1966 11
1967 14 12 N/A N/A
