HC Deb 05 December 1975 vol 901 c417W
56. Mr. Holland

asked the Secretary of State for Prices and Consumer Protection what steps she is taking to ensure the maintenance of safety standards for toys from overseas countries which are imported by the United Kingdom at Christmas time; and if she will make a statement.

Mr. Alan Williams

All toys offered for sale in Great Britain whether imported or of United Kingdom manufacture have to comply with the Toys (Safety) Regulations 1974 made under the Consumer Protection Act 1961. These regulations cover the major hazards which have in past experience been associated with toys. Any other hazard coming to my Department's attention would be taken up immediately with the importers or others concerned.
