HC Deb 05 December 1975 vol 901 cc438-9W
Mr. Rooker

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if she has an estimate of the numbers covered by sick pay schemes for manual and white collar workers in both the public and private sectors.

Mr. O'Malley

I regret that the information is not available in the form requested by my hon. Friend. The following are the estimated percentages of men and women in both full-time and part-time manual and non-manual occupations who were covered by sick pay schemes in April 1970.

Manual Non-Manual
Men 62.9 91.6
Women 48.8 82.3

The information was obtained from the New Earnings Survey of 1970 and published in detail in the Department of Employment Gazette, August 1971 (Volume LXXIX, No. 8, pages 690 to 710). The survey did not take account of the type of sick pay scheme provided.
