§ Mr. Gowasked the Secretary of State for the Environment whether he will introduce legislation to amend Section 19(5)(c) of the Housing Finance Act 1972 so that members of a co-ownership housing society become eligible for rent allowances.
§ Mr. FreesonBecause co-ownership societies provide for individual equity participation, I do not think that rent allowances should be extended to their members. However, consideration is being given to their financial problems in the light of the recommendations of the Working Party on Housing Co-operatives.
