HC Deb 05 December 1975 vol 901 c485W
Mr. David Steel

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how much money was spent in amenity and conservation grants for Ettrick and Lauderdale district in the last financial year.

Mr. William Ross

The Ettrick and Lauderdale District was formed on 16th May 1975 from the former burghs of Galashiels, Selkirk, Lauder and Melrose; parts of the former counties of Berwick, Midlothian and Roxburgh; and the former county of Selkirk. In these areas, in the financial year ending 31st March 1975, a total of £841 was paid in grants under the Countryside (Scotland) Act 1967. No conservation grants under Section 10 of the Town and Country Planning (Amendment) Act 1972 were paid in that year, but an offer of grant of £17,500 for one outstanding conservation area has recently been accepted, and two grants totalling £330 have been awarded from funds made available for projects in non-outstanding conservation areas for European Architectural Heritage Year 1975.
