HC Deb 05 December 1975 vol 901 c349W
Mr. Andrew F. Bennett

aked the Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will publish in the Official Report information available of the number of farm animals killed by stray dogs in the United Kingdom as a whole and in the area around greater Manchester for the most recent year figures are available.

Mr. Strang

Our latest available information on this covers the calendar year preceding local government reorganisation. This precludes any figures in respect of the new Greater Manchester area, but the following table gives combined totals for the counties from parts of which that area was formed:

FARM ANIMALS KILLED BY DOGS—NUMBERS NOTIFIED IN 1973
Type Great Britain Cheshire, Lancashire and Yorkshire (WR) only
Sheep 5,276 455
Poultry 3,274 391
Cattle 25 3
Pigs 16 4
Totals 8,591 853
